Managing a Shopify tax exemption request

This guide explains how to manage a Shopify tax exemption request.

When you receive a customer's request that includes the tax exemption certificate, you must send the following items to [email protected]:

  • The customer's tax exemption certificate
  • The customer's name and email address
  • The customer ID (optional)
  • The order ID

The Reach tax team will review the validity of the request and may request additional information. Once validated, they will apply the tax exemption to the customer's account. If the customer purchased the product before submitting the request, Reach will initiate a refund of the tax amount to the customer.

Important

Do not initiate a refund for the tax amount until we confirm the request is valid.

If the customer submits the request before purchasing the product and the Reach tax team validates the request, the customer can proceed with the order, and no taxes will be charged.
